I am a licensed elementary and Special Education teacher. I am also licensed to teach Reading in grades K-12. Before obtaining my teaching license, I was a substitute teacher for over 10 years. I have been working with children and teenagers for over thirty years. I love teaching and I love children. autism

Autism is a developmental disorder that affects the brain’s development of social and communications skills. Autism is one of three disorders that make up the Autism Spectrum. Some of the characteristics include impairments in social interactions, communications, and repetitive behaviors, Children with Autism can receive Special Education services in their schools ,with an Individualized Education Plan, which is a education plan that is tailored to meet the education needs of the students. As a Special Education teacher, it is my responsibility to make sure that the IEP meets the needs of the student and to implement that plan.


Aspergers

Aspergers is one of the three Autism Spectrum. This disorder is characterized by significant difficulties in social interactions, communications and with the use of imagination. Children with Aspergers usually differ from children with Autism usually have a higher functioning level and normal intelligence, with somewhat better communication skills. Children with Aspergers are eligible for an Individualized Education Plan, which is an education plan tailored for their specific needs. As a Special Education teacher, it is my responsibility to make sure that a child with Aspergers have a free appropriate education in an least restrictive environment.


ADD/ADHD

I am a special ed teacher. ADD/ADHD is a disorder that is a result of a chemical imbalance in the brain. A person with ADD/ADHD may have difficulty in focusing, impulsiveness, organization, and hyperactivity. Behavior modification and prescription meds are often used to help people with this disorder
